2 injured after car crashes into semitruck tank

Officials with Cowlitz 2 Fire and Rescue said a vehicle lost control, spun and crashed into the semitruck tanker that was on the shoulder lane.

KALAMA, Wash. — Two people were injured Sunday morning after a vehicle collided with a semitruck tanker on Interstate 5 in Cowlitz County.

The crash happened at 7:47 a.m. near exit 30 on I-5 in Kalama.

Officials with Cowlitz 2 Fire and Rescue said a vehicle lost control, spun and crashed into the semitruck tanker that was on the shoulder lane.

When crews arrived, the vehicle was wedged under the tank.

The driver and passenger of the vehicle, both in their 20s, were taken to Peace Health St. John’s Medical Center to be treated for their injuries. The two people were visiting from Hawaii and driving a rental car.

Authorities said the tanker was empty.

The cause of the crash is believed to be weather related and there were no other injuries.
