SOUTHAVEN, Miss. — Two people are dead and a suspect and an officer were hurt in a shooting at a Walmart in the northern Mississippi city of Southaven, according to WREG in Memphis.
The shooting prompted a sizeable law enforcement response, with officers setting up a perimeter and entering the Walmart Supercenter.
WREG is reporting that the alleged shooter is a former Walmart employee and that the two people who were killed were Walmart employees who were working when they were killed.
A woman answering the phone at the Southaven Police Department Tuesday morning said "we have ongoing emergencies" and no one was available to provide information.
The officer is expected to be OK.
According to WREG:
WREG has learned the that former employee was suspended on Monday after pulling a knife on a customer. It appears he then returned to the store on Tuesday and opened fire.
