• Minor flooding on Snoqualmie, Tolt, Skykomish rivers into Tuesday

    Updated:

Rain will be around in abundance through the balance of this day, Monday. The rain will be heaviest in the mountains and north but all locations will be soggy into the night. A quarter to half-inch of rain is likely in the lowlands into tonight.

It'll be breezy at times as this wet, rainy front sags south overnight. Some breezes will reach 25-30 mph in parts of the Sound. No big deal, but it will not be fun to be on the roads, especially before dawn.

Rainfall in the mountains will be above pass levels (so no snow to contend with) but two to five inches of rain will fall on the west slopes of the Olympics and Cascades through this evening and tonight. While we haven't had too much prolonged rainfall recently (and this dousing won't last long), we'll probably get a spike into "minor flood stage" overnight into Tuesday morning on the following rivers at the gauge sites:

MINOR flooding forecast tonight into early Tuesday:
    Skykomish River at Gold Bar
    Tolt River near Carnation
Snoqualmie River at Carnation and probably at the Falls too

Minor flooding on Snoqualmie, Skykomish rivers Monday night into early Tuesday, Oct. 21-22.

The waters will be running fast through the morning drive, but receding in the late morning through afternoon. These river levels don't typically impact property significantly -- instead just shutting some of the most rural riverfront roads.

Rain quickly ends by sunrise Tuesday and except for a few sprinkles or light showers in the few hours after dawn, we're done with heavy rainfall for a while!  The remainder of Tuesday as well as Wednesday and Thursday will feature a mix of clouds and sun. We will probably get a weak front through on Friday with a few light showers, followed by much cooler and mainly sunny weather for the weekend and into Halloween week.

Highs the rest of the work week will be in the upper 50s to lower 60s, cooling to the low-to-mid 50s for highs Saturday and Sunday.
