OLYMPIA, Wash. — Neighbors in Olympia helped to catch a mail thief on Monday, Dec. 28.

Four people saw a woman approaching mailboxes near their home—and did not recognize her as a neighbor.

The woman was seen opening multiple mailboxes and removing items from them.

Two of the witnesses confronted and detained her until police arrived.

Officers found the woman was carrying multiple gift cards, credit cards, checkbooks, checks and mail—none of which had her name on them.

They also found a red folder—organized by geographic area—which contained more checks.

The 23-year-old woman, Serina Nevalasca, admitted to stealing the mail, but said she found the folder and put it in her backpack.

She was booked into Thurston County Jail.
