Cirilo Castillo Jr., 52, of Edinburg, was arrested Wednesday and charged with bestiality, according to Hidalgo County online booking records.

Castillo had been arrested on the same charges in 2012, 2013 and 2015, the Brownsville Herald reported. He pleaded guilty to the 2013 charge and told authorities two years later that he had crawled to a horse’s barn for shelter after being hit by a vehicle, according to KVEO-TV.

In 2013, Castillo was sentenced to five years of probation, the Herald reported.

In March, the residents who owned the horse noticed that someone was leaving wooden benches in their horses’ stalls on their rural farm between Alamo and San Juan, KVEO reported. The residents installed a surveillance camera, especially since they had a pregnant mare scheduled to give birth soon, according to the television station.

Surveillance footage revealed a man standing on a chair near the horse, KVEO reported. Authorities said the man was wearing a mask, but officers were able to identify the man as Castillo.

Castillo was released after posting bail of $2,500, online records show.
