NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A Tennessee woman is accused of trying to burglarize a Nashville church and attempting to stab a K-9 officer when police tried to take her into custody, authorities said.
Bonnie Jean McLemore, 37, was arrested early Friday on charges of burglary, auto theft, aggravated animal cruelty and vandalism, according to Davidson County Sheriff’s Office online booking records.
Her bail was set at $42,000, online records show.
According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, K-9 officer Austin Bass and his partner, Otto, responded to a burglary in progress call at Carpenter’s Square Church in south Nashville at about 10 p.m. CST Thursday, WZTV reported. Officers saw McLemore rummaging through drawers, eating food, and picking up musical equipment, according to WKRN.
Bass called for McLemore to surrender, saying that the dog would be sent into the church, WZTV reported.
Bass and the dog entered the building and McLemore allegedly tried to stab Otto with a pair of scissors, according to WTVF.
Both the officer and dog suffered cuts from the broken glass before they restrained McLemore, WZTV reported.
Authorities said McLemore admitted she arrived at the church in a vehicle she had stolen earlier in the day, WKRN reported.
