The Oxnard Police Department in a news release said that Misael Sanchez, 29, died nearly two weeks after he was involved in a large soccer fight that included players from both teams and spectators.

The fight happened on July 10 at around 11 a.m. on a soccer field located at Oxnard High School, OPD said.

Following the fight, Sanchez was listed in critical condition but passed away early Monday, according to KABC.

According to KABC, the fight started between a dispute between two soccer teams over a referee’s decision. Police told KABC that Sanchez was attacked by multiple people, including a 46-year-old suspect who was arrested shortly after the fight. However, it’s not clear if that person will be facing any charges.

The investigation is ongoing and no further information has been released.

OPD said that investigators are still looking for witnesses who may have video of all or some of the fight.
