Tucson Police Department officers were called to a house in the 5500 block of South Monrovia Avenue on March 23 after a 4-year-old girl was found running in the street, according to KOLD.

Officers learned that Katie Luna Hernandez, 24, had left her two children home alone. One of the children was a 4-year-old and the other was a nine-month-old according to the news outlet.

The Arizona Department of Child Safety took custody of the children, KGUN reported.

The following day, investigators learned that Hernandez had a third child, according to the news outlet, a 2-year-old boy. A warrant was issued to search the house where investigators found the child’s remains. Officers say they also found suspected fentanyl and narcotic paraphernalia.

Neighbors told KGUN that they didn’t know that three children lived at the house.

Hernandez has been charged with two counts of child abuse. According to KGUN, additional charges are pending.

The 2-year-old boy’s cause and manner of death have not been released.
