The 48-year-old victim was shot in the chest at about 11:40 a.m. EDT while riding a northbound Q train, The New York Times reported. The train was pulling into the Canal Street station in lower Manhattan when the man was wounded, according to the New York Police Department.

Update 10:30 p.m. EDT May 22: Authorities identified the victim just after 10 p.m. EDT Sunday as Daniel Enriquez.

Enriquez, who lived in Park Slope and worked for Goldman Sachs, was en route to brunch in Manhattan via the Q when he was shot, his sister, Griselda Vile, told the Times.

“It’s horrific. This is a horror movie,” Vile, who described her brother as “a special, jovial guy,” told the newspaper.

He was the oldest of four children born in Williamsburg to parents who had immigrated from Mexico, she said. He returned to the city in the 1990s after the family had moved to Washington State, where he attended college. Ms. Vile had followed him back to New York, but now, she said, she feels scared.

Update 4:58 p.m. EDT May 22: The man fired his weapon while the train was traveling over the Manhattan Bridge, WABC-TV reported. When the train pulled into the Canal Street station, the suspect fled.

“According to witnesses, the suspect was walking back and forth in the same train car and without provocation, pulled out a gun and fired it at the victim at close range,” New York Police Department Chief Kenneth Corey said during a news conference.

Original report: Officials did not provide information about the events that led to the shooting, the newspaper reported.

The man was taken to an area hospital, where he died, WABC-TV reported.

Police were searching for a suspect who was wearing a gray Aeropostale hoodie, according to WNBC-TV. He fled the scene, reaching the street level of the station. He has not been detained, the Times reported.

The latest shooting comes after a man opened fire at a train station in Brooklyn.

On May 6, a federal grand jury indicted Frank R. James, 62, on charges of committing a terrorist attack or other violence against a mass transportation system and discharging a firearm during a violent crime, according to The Associated Press.

James is accused of setting off smoke grenades and firing a gun on a crowded train in the Sunset Park neighborhood of Brooklyn, WCBS-TV reported. Police estimated that James fired a gun 33 times while onboard an N train, according to WPIX-TV.

James was arrested on April 13, about 30 hours after he drove from Philadelphia to New York City in a rented U-Haul and peppered commuters with bullets. The shooting victims were between 16 to 60 years old, according to the AP.

After the shooting, James called the New York Police Department’s tip line to say he was inside a McDonald’s restaurant in Manhattan, telling authorities to come and get him, according to the AP.
