BUCHANAN COUNTY, Iowa — Iowa deputies are dealing with a major traffic safety concern -- super speeders.

A Buchanan County Sheriff's deputy pulled over two drivers going faster than 100 mph within a week.

The deputy caught the first driver going 104 mph in a 65 mph zone and issued a $328.25 ticket. Later in the week, he pulled over another driver going 123 mph on the same section of highway. That ticket was $456.50.

Compared to the 4-year average there is a 113% increase in tickets for speeding more than 100 mph, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

“Speeding continues to be a major safety concern on our roads and highways,” the sheriff’s office said on social media. “Please slow down, drive responsibly and stay safe.”
