According to Bulloch County Coroner Jake Futch, Eli Bradley was waiting for his school bus in his mother’s car shortly after 7 a.m. and believed the school vehicle was driving away from him, WTGS-TV reported.

Bradley was taken to the East Georgia Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead, according to WTGS.
According to the Bulloch County School District, the bus was yielding to oncoming traffic at the intersection of Maria Sorrell Road and Stillwater Drive north of Statesboro and was preparing to turn onto Stillwater. It was not a bus stop, officials told the television station.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the boy was running toward the bus before it arrived at the designated pickup spot, WTOC-TV reported. Troopers said the bus did not have its flashing lights or “stop” arm engaged, according to the television station.
Bradley was a student at William James Middle School in Statesboro, according to WSAV-TV.
In a statement, the Bulloch County School District said, “we always hurt and grieve when a child is lost to us.”
Troopers said it was unlikely that the driver of the car will face charges, WTOC reported.
