LAREDO, Texas — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Texas intercepted hard narcotics with a combined street value of more than $75 million in four separate recent incidents.
The busts, which spanned two days at the Laredo Port of Entry, netted suspected methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine and marijuana, according to a news release issued by the CPB.
The largest of the four seizures occurred Wednesday at the Colombia-Solidarity Bridge when investigators discovered more than 3,700 pounds of suspected methamphetamine concealed within an empty refrigerated trailer arriving from Mexico. The 2010 Freightliner transporting the narcotics, valued at more than $74.8 million, was also seized, the agency stated.
A second seizure occurred the same day at the World Trade Bridge when officers found nearly 5.7 pounds of suspected brown heroin, valued at roughly $129,000, concealed within a 2015 Freightliner manifested as a toy car arriving from Mexico, according to the news release.
The third seizure occurred Thursday at the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge where investigators discovered 17 packages containing nearly 38 pounds of suspected cocaine concealed within a 2017 Toyota Hiace arriving from Mexico. The narcotics had an estimated street value of nearly $292,000, the agency stated.
Meanwhile, the fourth seizure occurred later the same day at the World Trade Bridge when officers discovered 14 packages containing 38 pounds of suspected marijuana within a shipment of leather seats arriving from Mexico. The drugs had an estimated street value of nearly $8,000, according to the news release.
