MODESTO, Calif. — A 13-year-old California boy is facing a murder charge after police said he shot and killed a food truck owner in Modesto.
According to the Modesto Bee, the fatal shooting occurred shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday on Monterey Avenue. In a Facebook post, Modesto police said the teen, whose name was not released because he is a minor, approached a taco truck and shot its owner, Rafael Avila-Rodriguez, 67, of Salida, before fleeing on foot. Avila-Rodriguez later died at a nearby hospital, the post said.
Police later tracked down the suspect and apprehended him during a traffic stop about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Facebook post. He is now in Juvenile Hall, police said.
