CRAWFORD COUNTY, Ark. — A Mulberry, Arkansas, woman is facing a first-degree murder charge after her infant son was found unresponsive Sept. 3 and first responders discovered a wet wipe stuck deep in his throat.
Nancy Williams was arrested Friday and is being held in the Crawford County Detention Center on a $1 million bond, KNWA reported.
First responders extracted the lodged baby wipe from the 2-month-old child’s throat but were unable to resuscitate him, KFSM reported.
Williams told police that she had accidentally cut the child’s gums with a bottle while attempting to feed and quiet him and then used wet wipes to try and stop the bleeding. Police confirmed finding one baby wipe at the residence with blood on it in addition to the wipe found lodged in the infant’s throat, the TV station reported.
According to court records, Williams later confessed to police that she shoved a baby wipe down the infant’s throat because she “wanted him to stop” crying and not wake her sleeping husband.
Court records also state that when asked by investigators why she did not tell anyone responding to the emergency about the obstruction in the child’s throat, Williams stated that she “had other things on her mind,” KNWA reported.
