Tacoma Dome could get new name

TACOMA, Wash. — Tacoma’s iconic Dome could be changing its name.

KIRO 7 Eyewitness News partner the Tacoma News Tribune reported that the city’s looking into selling the naming rights for the Tacoma Dome.

The 30-year-old venue is in need for a renovation and the money from naming rights could help fund it.

The News Tribune reported 10 years ago, city officials were in talks of selling the Dome’s naming rights to Comcast for up to $7 million in cash and advertising over 10 years. But after public outcry over a name change, the deal fell through. Comcast withdrew its offer and later had a naming deal with the city of Everett.

The city’s solicitation is accepting sealed bids until July 16.
