State may get 2 pandas from China

Western Washington could soon be home to two pandas.

Members of a state foundation hoping to bring some of the bears here just returned from China.

A Chinese delegation is due to visit Point Defiance Zoo in Tacoma and Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle in the next few months.

They're going to look at which facility may be a better home to the endangered animals.

“We're moving forward. We believe pandas are coming. A lot of details have to be worked out when the time comes,” Ron Chow with the Washington State Panda Foundation said.

“We have so many close ties to China already. This is a natural for us,” said former state Attorney General

Rob McKenna.

Last September, the president of China visited Seattle. After his trip, he wrote a letter directing his government to explore the possibility of sending pandas to the state.
