Shooting in Tukwila sends one to hospital

TUKWILA, Wash. — Shots rang out in a busy parking lot Thursday night right across from Southcenter Mall.

Police said two men were sitting in a car when eyewitnesses heard them fighting.

Then as they drove in front of the LA Fitness, one of the men fired at least two shots at the other.

“I was working out and I just heard a pop,” said one man. “I didn’t think much of it, then I [saw] a lot of cop cars out here.”

The victim jumped out of the car as the man who shot him sped off in a black sedan.

Police do not know which way the car went, nor do officers have much detail about the driver.

“I saw the ambulance and all the cops show up,” said Shane Macri. “They grabbed the stretcher and picked him up and got him out of there.”

Police would not say where the victim was shot, but a Harborview spokeswoman confirmed he is in critical condition.

No bystanders were hit, despite how busy the parking lot was at about 5:45 in the evening -- with people shopping and eating at several restaurants that share the parking lot with LA Fitness.

“It’s hard man,” Macri said. “When I was a kid there was sirens every now and then for dumb little school fights and stuff like that, but definitely nothing like this.”
