Shelton, Wash. — "Mr. Schultz is an evil person."
That's how the father of an 11-year-old girl describes 31-year-old Kevin Schultz. Schultz was a Sunday school teacher at Bethel Assembly of God Church in Shelton and that is where he met the father's 11-year-old daughter and then allegedly exchanged sexually explicit text messages and photographs with the child.
The girl's parents discovered the inappropriate texts while looking at their child's phone. "I'm talking about a lot of very bad things," said the girl's father, who asked KIRO-7 not to identify him in an effort to protect his daughter's privacy. Court documents indicate that Schultz was able to convince the child to send him an explicit photo of herself and Schultz allegedly sent her inappropriate photos of his body as well. The victim's father says the situation has devastated the family, telling KIRO-7 "My little girl is a mess, our whole family is a mess."
The child's grandmother who also asked us to shield her name to protect her granddaughter said she fears there are other victims saying "I have no doubt he has been hitting up any little girl who has an electronic device."
Pastor John Pierce of the Bethel Assembly of God Church tells KIRO-7 that Schultz had passed a background check before being allowed to volunteer as a Sunday school teacher. The pastor also said that all Sunday school teachers work in pairs, so Schultz would never have been alone with any of the children.
Mason County sheriff's detectives are in the process of getting a search warrant to conduct a more thorough analysis of Schultz's cellphone. Detective Bill Adam said "We're looking to see if there are any photos of any other children." As the investigation continues, Kevin Schultz was charged with sexual exploitation of a minor and child pornography and is being held in the Mason County Jail on $50,000 bail.
