SEATTLE — The countdown is on for one of Seattle's biggest parties of the year: Seafair Summer Fourth at Lake Union.
It will be bigger and better than ever, according to organizers, as the holiday is on the weekend for the first time in years.
According to Seafair organizers, more than 200,000 people watch the fireworks show around Lake Union, but at Gas Works park alone, around 50,000 people pack the park for most of the day.
Some will remember in years past, that organizers had a huge, inflatable Statue of Liberty at the top of a hill near Lake Union.
This year, it's going to be a giant torch, and it's going to be bigger than ever at Gas Works.
Seafair organizers say there will be a ton of booths and activities.
Of course, it all leads up to the fireworks show, which is 19 minutes and 30 seconds this year:
This year's music set has 13 songsThe Galaxis Firing System (used to shoot the fireworks) is the same one used for the London Olympics fireworks showsA firework shell that's 10 inches in diameter can create an explosion 1,000 feet in the sky.
Show is 9 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, July 4.
An estimated 200,000 people will watch the fireworks display in person: specifically: 50,000 at Gas Works Park and 15,000 at South Lake Union.
