Rescued climber tweets she is safe

MOUNT RAINIER, Wash. — The last climber who was rescued off Mount Rainier Friday evening used Twitter to reassure her friends that she is safe.

Stacy Wren’s tweet was the first status from any of the four climbers that were rescued off the mountain.

“I’m alive! Made it off Rainier. Thanks be to God and all of the park rangers. Never been more thankful for the precious gift of life.” Wren tweeted.

Wren, along with Stuart Smith, Noelle Smith and Ross Van Dyke were the four Texas-based climbers who slipped into a crevasse while summiting Mt. Rainier.

While rescuing the climbers, climbing ranger, Nick Hall, was killed when fell thousands of feet down the mountain on Thursday. Due to weather conditions, efforts to recover his body are postponed, said a Mt. Rainier National Park spokesperson.

A spokesperson for Madigan Army Medical Center told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Stacy Sakamoto the climbers are currently in fair condition.

Before Wren’s climb, she tweeted, “Packing. Headed to Seattle tomorrow. Mt. Rainier, here I come!”

She also tweeted a photo of a sheath she made for her ice ax, using a cracker box.

On Tuesday, before the group attempted to summit the mountain Wren tweeted along with a photo of her permit, “It’s go time.”
