Mark Karasek has been jailed since early Saturday morning -- after a horrific crime that happened inside the home in Redmond's Union Hill neighborhood Friday night.
Karasek and his father, 51-year-old Zdenek Karasek, were arguing heatedly, when, according to court documents, the younger Karasek opened fire.
His grandmother fled the house; his 11-year-old brother jumped out of his bedroom window.
Only the younger Karasek and his 18-year-old girlfriend remained. By then, his father, shot several times, was dead.
We talked to Michele McNeill; she lives behind the Karasek's home.
"My heart just goes out," she said, her voice breaking up. Her son, she said, is the young brother's best friend.
"It's always a tragedy when somebody loses a life but especially when it's family," McNeill said. "And when you've got small children involved."
We uncovered 2012 court documents that show Mark Karasek was in legal trouble then. So drunk -- his alcohol level was seven times the legal limit for a 19-year-old -- he totaled his new Camaro, badly injuring his 14-year-old passenger.
He served four months in the King County jail.
Karasek's decision not to show up in court Monday does not let him off the hook. He'll be back on the calendar Tuesday.
