Rape accusations against Olympia man charged in bizarre animal cruelty case

OLYMPIA, Wash. — A woman who once lived with David Williford said she told Olympia police he drugged and raped her, describing him as a monster.

“Yeah I think monster would be accurate,” said Ruth, who asked KIRO 7 to conceal her identity saying she is afraid of Williford.

“He’s more dangerous than he appears, much more dangerous than he appears,” she said.

Ruth said she and her boyfriend rented a room from Williford after moving to Olympia from Atlanta.

She said Williford gave her pills he called vitamins that she believes were drugs.

“I’ve just got pieces of memory of him violating me in several ways,” she said. Ruth described Williford as being heavily into violent BDSM sex.

Williford was arrested late last month by the Thurston County Sheriff's Office accused of adopting pet rabbits and guinea pigs on Craigslist and keeping them in cages without feeding them, then beating the animals to death.

Investigators found bags of dead animals and bones in the basement of his home along with a cage outside the house full of skulls.

Williford's family has claimed he used the animals for food. But Ruth claimed he seemed to get pleasure from killing the animals.

“Sheer enjoyment I’d have to say. I mean he certainly wasn’t killing them for food, they were starved,” said Ruth.

KIRO 7 has learned Williford is also under investigation for child rape in Lakewood after a 23-year old woman came forward saying Williford raped her when she was just 14 years old and living with him in that city.

“We just received the case and are just opening an investigation into it,” said Lakewood police Lt. John Unfred.

Williford has not been charged in the rape cases.

He faces multiple charges of animal cruelty.

His bail was reduced from $150,000 to $50,000 following a bail hearing in Thurston County Court on Thursday.

He has since bailed out.
