Police look for attacker after woman was sexually assaulted

REDMOND, Wash. — Redmond police are investigating after a woman was sexually assaulted after leaving work.

At about 9 p.m. Thursday officers responded to a report of an assault in progress in the 16100 block of Northeast 85th Street.

Police said a woman reported that she was leaving work when she was approached by an unknown masked man. The man initially demanded money but the woman refused.

According to police the man physically assaulted the woman. During the incident, the man placed his hand inside the victim’s clothing and sexually assaulted her.

The victim screamed and fought back, which caused the suspect to run away.

Some people at a nearby youth shelter heard the screams and didn’t realize exactly what was happening until police showed up.

"Long story short, everybody figured out something was really happening, police ran past looking for somebody in a red mask," said one of the people at the shelter.

Police and a K-9 unit searched the area but could not find the suspect.

The suspect is an unknown race, average height and build and was wearing a dark jacket or sweatshirt.

Redmond detectives are continuing to investigate. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Redmond Detective Natalie D’Amico at 425-556-2500.
