Motorcyclist identified in fatal SR 2 crash

SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. — The motorcyclist who died in a crash Sunday morning on State Route 2 in Monroe has been identified.

Washington State Patrol troopers identified the victim as 62-year-old Terry Johnson.

Troopers took a picture of the aftermath of the crash that involved Johnson and another vehicle around milepost 11, which is east of Roosevelt Road.

Troopers said Johnson was headed west, passing cars on the two-lane highway, when he hit a car headed east head-on. The crash killed Johnson immediately.

The driver and passenger in the car were taken to the hospital.

One thing to note: That stretch of highway is lined with caution signs.

Troopers said they have seen a “high volume” of fatal motorcycle crashes lately. Five were reported within 24 hours earlier this month.

Chopper 7 recently flew over a fatal motorcycle crash in Everett near the Mariner Park and Ride.

There was also a head-on crash in Tukwila that killed a motorcyclist, according to investigators.

Just a few weeks ago, troopers released a video with safety tips because of the number of motorcycle crashes.

Sunday’s crash caused both directions of the highway to close, but it was reopened after 4 p.m.
