Man who stuck syringe in meat at Walmart sentenced

Man arrested after allegedly sticking a hypodermic needle into a package of meat.

POULSBO, Wash. — A man who stuck packages of meat with a syringe in a Poulsbo Walmart will spend three months in jail.

The Kitsap Sun reports Daniel Thieman pleaded guilty to malicious mischief.

A customer found a syringe pushed into a package of sausage in October.

Thieman was arrested after police examined surveillance video from the store's security system that showed Thieman near the case where the meat had been tampered with was found.

Store employees removed the meat, called police and sealed off the meat section of the store with plastic. The syringe itself had no needle and did not appear to be used, as the inside was dry.

Investigators found no evidence the meat was contaminated, but it and other food items worth $19,000 were discarded.
