TAFT, Calif. — A 68-year-old man accused of murdering his nephew inside a SeaTac industrial business on Thursday was taken into custody after an eight-hour standoff Saturday.
Taft Police Department received information that Robert Leroy Studer was inside a business in Taft, California, 30 miles southwest of Bakersfield, just before noon.
Police say they attempted to make contact with Studer several times over the next several hours with no response. They then sent in the Kern County SWAT team, bomb squad and crisis negotiators.
SWAT team members entered the business in Taft about 7 p.m. and found Studer lying in bed. No one was injured but Studer was taken to a local hospital with undisclosed illnesses.
King County detectives are en route to Taft to assist in the investigation.
The business where Studer and his vehicle were found is now being searched for a possible murder weapon.
