Man shot in leg in Tacoma causes brief lockdown at elementary school

TACOMA, Wash. — Tacoma police say a man who was shot in the leg struck a car in front of an elementary school, causing a brief lockdown.

Tacoma police said the shooting victim was bloody when his car struck a parked vehicle in front of McCarver Elementary at 8:30 a.m. Friday, causing it to go into a modified lockdown while police investigated.

The victim, who police said was uncooperative with investigators, said the shooting occurred somewhere on 17th, but police were unable to find the shooting scene.

The man, who was shot in the upper leg, was transported to the hospital.

The Tacoma School District said no shot was fired near the school.
