Man exposes himself to woman in UW elevator

SEATTLE — A woman riding an elevator on the University of Washington told campus police a man entered the elevator and then began to pleasure himself.

The incident happened on Tuesday at 1 p.m. when the woman was in in an elevator in Schmitz Hall.

The man entered the elevator, and as it began to move, he said hello to the woman.  When she looked toward him to acknowledge the greeting, she saw that he was masturbating.  She confronted him, and when the elevator door opened, the man ran out.

The woman chased the man onto the street and north on University Way, where she lost sight of him and flagged down UW police officers and told them about the incident.

Additional officers responded to search for the man.  As officers were interviewing the victim, a blue sedan drove past, and the victim told officers that the man was in that car.

UWPD officers gave chase, but the car fled north up an alley toward Northeast 45th Street at a high rate of speed.

The car was last seen heading eastbound on Northeast 45th Street.

The man is described as black, about 18 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall, 140 to 160 pounds with a thinner build and short black hair.  He was wearing a black button-up shirt with a gold chain around his neck and gray pants.  The victim described the man as possibly being of east African descent.

The car he was in is described as an older blue sedan, possibly a Dodge or Chrysler.

The case is being investigated by the University of Washington Police Department under case # 14-01753.  Anyone with additional information about this crime or the man’s whereabouts is asked to call the UWPD at 206-685-UWPD (8973).
