SEATTLE — The city is bringing out equipment Wednesday to clear an area where more than 100 trees were illegally cut down in West Seattle.
The stumps of 150 trees were discovered over the winter along 35th Avenue Southwest in the North Admiral neighborhood.
The West Seattle Blog reports a contractor will be at the site to remove blackberry bushes to reveal if there are any more stumps that weren't found the first time around.
It will also help the hillside recover after the illegal clear-cut in January.
"If it impacts the structure of the hillside, and has issues like that, which I understand the area is prone to, then that's a problem,” said West Seattle resident Vince Rioux.
The city owns the property in the Duwamish head greenbelt, which is a popular viewpoint in West Seattle.
Seattle City attorney Pete Holmes has said whoever is responsible for the clear cut could face jail time.
The penalty depends on the value of what was cut down.
If it is worth more than $5,000, the crime becomes a felony which brings with it the possibility of jail time.
