Uber and Walgreens unveil feature allowing users to schedule COVID-19 vaccine appointments, rides

Uber

Uber and Walgreens unveiled a new feature Wednesday that allows Uber users to book a COVID-19 vaccine appointment and a ride to the appointment straight from the Uber app. The feature is one of several new ones announced by Uber in a global announcement.

Starting Wednesday, Uber users will see a “Vaccine” option within the app. There they can enter their zip code to find a Walgreens location near them with available vaccine appointments and schedule a ride to the appointment.

Users will receive a reminder via push notification prior to the appointment.

“We’re committed to helping ensure that transportation is not a barrier to getting vaccinated,” Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said in a news release.  “We know that by making it easier to get to an appointment, more people will get vaccinated. By partnering with Walgreens, our goal is to make getting that shot as easy as booking a ride with Uber.”

The feature is available to all Uber users in the United States, and vaccine appointments are subject to availability.

In addition to the new appointment and ride scheduling feature, Uber and Walgreens have recently held vaccination clinics in Atlanta, El Paso, Chicago, Houston and Milwaukee, with plans to hold more clinics in other areas hardest hit by the pandemic.
