CHEHALIS, Wash. — Troopers are investigating multiple separate crashes that caused backups on Interstate 5 near Chehalis on Friday night.
Just before 7:30 p.m., troopers were investigating a fatal collision involving an SUV and pedestrian on southbound I-5 and Mellen Street.

Troopers said a 15-year-old girl was struck and killed while crossing the I-5 to meet friends.
Chehalis - SB I5/MP81 - Spoke w/Sgt at scene. 30 min ETA for roadway being open. 15yr old girl struck/killed crossing I5 to meet friends.

After that incident, there was a crash involving a semi and car in the northbound lanes at Mellen Street. One person was trapped in the vehicle.

Centralia fire said a man in his 30s was extricated from the vehicle.

Troopers said the driver of the semi was arrested for impairment.
Before 8 p.m., troopers received reports of another crash in the area.

Troopers said the crashes were not weather related.
