South Sound 911 to launch online fireworks reporting tool

South Sound 911 announced Thursday that it will be launching an online tool for residents in certain cities to report the illegal use of fireworks.

Residents of Fife, Orting, Roy, Sumner, Tacoma and University Place will be able to report the use of fireworks at FireworksReport.com between 6 p.m. Friday, July 1, until 6 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, the agency announced.

In a news release, South Sound 911 said July 4 is the single busiest day for its call takers and dispatchers, as call volumes are known to more than double. South Sound 911 hopes the FireworksReport.com tool makes it easier for 911 call takers to answer emergency calls more promptly.

“Emergencies are always our number one priority,” South Sound 911 Executive Director Deborah Grady said. “Providing alternative reporting options offers both a convenience to our community and reduces the impact on our call takers, so they can focus on true emergencies and get people the help they need as fast as possible.”

To file a report, the complainant will need to provide their name and a valid address where the fireworks violation occurred. If the location is not eligible for an online report, the complainant will be forwarded to the non-emergency lines: 253-287-4455 or 800-562-9800.

Tacoma Police officials said officers working fireworks patrols will get the alerts directly on their screens. Other officers will also be able to see them and respond as their call load allows.
