Snohomish County getting new crime mapping system

Starting Wednesday, some people living in Snohomish County will be able to keep track of crime in their neighborhood using all-new online crime maps.

Seattle police use a similar kind of system.

Criminal events generate police reports on a map and that can be sorted by the type of crime and makes it easier see what’s happening in a certain area.

The Everett Police Department will the first in the county to roll their information out , but in the coming weeks expect most, if not all, Snohomish County police agencies to using such systems.

The Community Crime Map is being put together in conjunction with several agencies across Snohomish County including SNOPAC and SNOCOM -- the 911 dispatch agencies there.

The Community Crime Map will be able to sort by time and date and is free.

The maps that are ready so far can be seen at http://communitycrimemap.com/
