Search on for escaped Grays Harbor County Jail inmate

MONTESANO, Wash. — Deputies with the Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office are searching for an inmate who escaped from the Grays Harbor County Jail by hiding in a garbage can.

Officials said they discovered around 3 p.m. Wednesday that James Bartholomew had gotten away.

Deputies said Bartholomew hid in a large garbage can and was taken to the outside garbage area by another inmate.

Bartholomew later left the outside garbage area on foot, according to officials.

"Bartholomew was getting ready to plea to a drug and a weapon offense and was facing a lengthy prison sentence," an official with the Sheriff's Office wrote in a news release.

Bartholomew, 40, is described by deputies as 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing 147 pounds, with hazel eyes and brown hair.

Deputies are working with area law enforcement agencies and a U.S. Marshalls Service task force to find and arrest Bartholomew.

“Anyone who harbors or helps Bartholomew could face criminal charges, as well,” deputies said.

According to officials, the inmate who assisted in Bartholomew’s escape will be booked on escape charges.

“If anyone sees Bartholomew, please do not approach or contact him. Please call 911 to report his location,” deputies said.

Anyone with information on his location is asked to call the dispatch non-emergency number 360-533-8765 or Detective Jeremy Holmes at 360-249-3711.
