Police stepping up patrols in park where child porn found

VIDEO: Child pornography found at Puyallup park

PUYALLUP, Wash. — A community is concerned after child porn was found in a Puyallup Park.

The teenager who found it was horrified.

The pornography was placed inside a slide at popular Bradley Lake Park and discovered last Friday.

The pictures were left in a spot children would be likely to see them, too.

It is in this place that seems filled with innocence, a park where parents bring their children to play, that it was found.

"Grabbed it," said Brandon, who asked that his last name not be used. "Crumpled it up. Handed it to my sister and said, 'Don't look at it until we got to the car.'"

Three days ago, the 16-year-old Puyallup teen was watching his young niece play at Puyallup's Bradley Lake Park.

He looked up and saw a collage of graphic child pornography inside the tube slide.

"It was just terrifying," he said.

So terrifying, he said he couldn't, he wouldn't, describe what he saw.

"The nature of those images, the things that are done to children are just incomprehensible," said Christy Keating, a former King County prosecutor.

Keating, who once prosecuted sexually violent predators, said the images of child porn can traumatize just about anyone.

"I was very careful in the course of my work to not even look at the images that were sent to me," said Keating. "Even I wouldn't look, unless I had to take those to a jury. And then clearly I would need to look."

Some parents at Bradley Lake Park had heard about the porn but came back anyway.

"She's like, you don't want to go there," said Nikki Woods, a Puyallup parent, who was there with a friend. "I don't know. So we thought of other options but this just has so much more to do. So that's why we still came."

That shows just how popular this park is.

Puyallup police say they are stepping up patrols.

They are also examining the pornography itself to determine if the victims are new and in need of rescuing.

That work is still going on.
