RENTON, Wash. — Health officials are investigating an outbreak of norovirus-like illness connected with a Renton restaurant after at least 11 people were sickened.

King County Public Health officials said since Aug. 2, 10 people from three meal parties reported getting sick after eating at WildFin American Grill on July 29.

They also identified an ill employee who experienced symptoms consistent with norovirus on Aug. 4 but wasn’t working while contagious.

It’s unknown how the norovirus was spread within the restaurant.

Health investigators visited and closed the restaurant on Aug. 5, to complete a thorough cleaning and disinfection.

“We observed improper food handling practices that could contribute to the spread of norovirus, including insufficient temperatures for the dishwashing machine, improper handwashing, inadequate use of barriers to prevent bare hand contact with ready to eat foods, and risk of cross contamination,” officials said.

The restaurant reopened Aug. 6 after investigators confirmed proper cleaning and disinfection was completed.
