Democrat Marie Gluesenkamp Perez holds a narrow lead over Republican Joe Kent in the race for Washington’s 3rd congressional district.
As of 4:25 p.m. Saturday, Gluesenkamp Perez led Kent by fewer than 5,000 votes, with The Associated Press estimating 70% of votes counted.
Thirty-one percent of District 3 voters voted for Gluesenkamp Perez in the primary, while about 22.8% voted for Kent.
Kent, who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump, edged out incumbent Republican Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler in the state’s top-two primary.
Herrera Beutler, who won the election for the seat in 2010 and has represented the district since, was among those targeted by Trump for her impeachment vote following the attack on the U.S. Capitol.
About 22.3% voted for Herrera Beutler in the primary — the two Republican candidates were separated by just 1,067 votes.
