INDEX, Wash. — A man has died after being pulled from the water at Eagle Falls on the Skykomish River in Index.
According to Sky Valley Fire, crews were called to the area around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday after someone saw the man unconscious in the water.
First responders tried to resuscitate him, but he didn’t make it.
This marks the 13th death at Eagle Falls since 2020.
Within the past six years, there has been a slew of videos posted on TikTok of the falls that have gone viral— encouraging people to visit. In that same time frame, at least a dozen people have drowned there, according to Sky Valley Fire.
To stay safe in the water:
- Always wear a life jacket when you are on the water.
- Consider bringing a whistle to alert people if you’re in trouble.
- Keep children within arm’s reach.
- Don’t dive in. You don’t know how shallow the water might be.
