Issaquah-Hobart Road reopens after raging waters cause closure

ISSAQUAH, Wash. — A road many commuters use on the eastside is back open after raging waters caused havoc, shutting down Issaquah-Hobart road.

Rocks and soil spilled from a hillside and clogged a culvert next to the road, causing debris to spill over the road.

For days, neighbors could not pass through the area and were forced to take a detour.

It took a lot of work to get the road back open earlier than expected.

Road crews cleared the culvert and the road, then built a berm to help direct water to the creek, so it wouldn’t damage the road or flood homes in the area.

One hundred workers volunteered and came in on their day off to get the work completed.

Workers said the debris was entering the culvert as fast as they were clearing it.

KIRO 7 spoke with some neighbors who were glad the road was reopened early.

“Relief, yeah it’s good that they’ve got it fixed,” one man said.

Neighbors with water on their properties said it’s the worst they’ve seen it in years.

King County road crews said many roads have been reopened, but not all.
