Edmonds School District cancels two football games due to COVID-19 cases

SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. — Officials with the Edmonds School District have canceled two football games due to COVID-19.

The Edmonds-Woodway and the Meadowdale game and the Lynnwood versus Snohomish game have been canceled.

Officials said a positive COVID-19 case was identified on Lynnwood’s football team and on Meadowdale.

Unvaccinated athletes, coaches, trainers and other employees who came in close contact with the person who tested positive will be required to quarantine for 14 days even if they have tested negative for COVID-19, officials said.

Edmonds School District Athletic Director Angie McGuire said the district follows the Department of Health guidelines.

After reviewing the close contacts of the COVID-19-positive cases, officials found that Lynnwood and Meadowdale “did not have the numbers to safely field teams on Friday night,” McGuire said.

Although Lynnwood and Meadowdale will not play, Edmonds-Woodway will go up against Emerald Ridge High School at 8 p.m. at the Edmonds School District Stadium, officials said.
