Several residents of Mount Vernon were jolted out of bed early Sunday morning, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The magnitude 3.56 earthquake occurred around 4:15 a.m.

At a depth of 13.5 kilometers, the epicenter was just east of downtown Mount Vernon.
According to the USGS, nearly 400 people reported feeling it.
Woke up at 4:15 a.m. today to a 3.6 earthquake centered just a mile east of Mount Vernon, 8 miles beneath the surface. It was pretty startling. So far, no damage reported.
