Driver arrested after collision on Beacon Hill

Detectives with the Seattle Police Department’s Traffic Collision Investigation Squad are investigating after an 86-year-old pedestrian sustained serious injuries in a crash on Beacon Hill Tuesday morning.

Around 9:15 a.m., police said a Ford Fusion driven by a 48-year-old man crossed into the northbound lanes of traffic and up onto the east sidewalk on 15th Avenue South -- approaching South Spokane Street.

"The front of the Fusion struck the 86-year-old pedestrian walking southbound on the sidewalk, before coming to a stop. The pedestrian sustained serious injuries. Neither occupant of the car was injured," Seattle Police said in a blotter post.

The driver and a female passenger in the Ford Fusion were uninjured in the crash. The victim was transported to the hospital.

Police said they evaluated the driver at the scene and believed he was impaired by drugs.

“Officers arrested the driver and a legal blood draw was conducted at a hospital after a warrant was obtained,” police said.

The driver was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of vehicular assault, according to police.
