EVERETT, Wash. — A crash after a high-speed police chase caused a major road closure and cut power to thousands of customers in south Everett Thursday.
The crash happened shortly before 5 a.m. at Everett Mall Way and Highway 99/Evergreen Way.
Snohomish County deputies said the chase began when they found a truck going 100 mph on West Everett Mall Way. Deputies started to chase the truck, and as it turned south onto Highway 99, the driver lost control and crashed into a power pole, bringing power lines down onto the road.
Snohomish County PUD said power was cut to 5,200 customers. Power for most of those customers has since been restored, but the utility said several dozen outages near the crash scene would take longer to restore while crews make repairs.
The crash and downed power lines caused the closure of Everett Mall Way at Highway 99.
The driver, a 21-year-old man, was arrested for suspected DUI.
