The holiday season is upon us and you might already be thinking about getting a Christmas tree.
While you can go to a store and buy one, starting Nov. 9 permits for Christmas tree cutting in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest go on sale online.
For those who want to purchase in-person, permits will be available at various local vendors and the Mt. Adams and Cowlitz Valley Ranger District offices beginning Nov. 17.
Permits will be limited to five per household and are valid for one-time use, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
The permits will cost $5 each and a service charge of $2.50 will also be applied when purchasing a permit through Recreation.gov.
This year, households with fourth graders can get a tree cutting permit for free:
After earning their Every Kid Outdoors pass online, fourth graders simply need to show their valid paper voucher or “Every Kid Outdoors” pass at the national forest office for their free permit. Fourth graders and their parents should visit everykidoutdoors.gov for more details and to obtain their paper voucher.
