Canlis launches drive-in movie theater in parking lot

SEATTLE — Iconic Queen Anne staple Canlis launched a drive-in movie theater in its parking lot to raise money for the Black Farmers Collective, an urban farm maintained by Black farmers and growers.

Although it’s still closed for dine-in eating, starting Thursday, Canlis is using its parking lot as a movie venue and to sell burgers and other snacks. The restaurant was already offering takeout after it closed during the pandemic.

Tickets are $50 per person and 100% of sales go to the Black Farmers Collective, whose mission is to create a farm to "grow the freshest, healthiest food possible by people of color for people of color."

The first movie in the rotation is Groundhog Day, followed by Back to the Future II and The Muppet Movie. Find the full schedule here.

The lot opens at 8 p.m. and the movie starts around 9 p.m.

The theater is presented in conjunction with Swedish and the Seattle International Film Festival.
