Black Diamond councilmembers angry about development deal

BLACK DIAMOND, Wash. — Angry city councilmembers in a small east King County community have brought their city to a grinding halt.

They're upset over plans to quadruple the size of Black Diamond.

The Seattle Times reports that three of the five members of the Black Diamond City Council have not been showing up to their meetings. They are also delayed paying bills for minor things like gas for police cars.

The councilmembers are upset over a development deal that would add 6,000 homes over the next 20 years, quadrupling the city’s population.

Currently, there’s only 4,200 people in the city and it has only grown by 200 residents since 2005.

The councilmembers want to remake city government so they have more power over development projects.
