BELLEVUE, Wash. — Officers with the Bellevue Police Department arrested two men who are suspected of stealing from gym lockers over the past ten months.
In a news release, police said Joseph Gill, 33, and D'Mario Mallory, 30, targeted gyms that don't have security cameras.
"After checking in at the front desk, the two suspects would cut the locks off lockers and steal wallets containing cash and credit cards. The pair placed new locks on the lockers, causing a delay in reporting," a spokesperson for the police department wrote in a news release.
Police said that while thefts occurred all over King County, dozens were reported at the Kelsey Creek LA Fitness on 148th Ave NE and Main St. in Bellevue.
According to police, both suspects were identified when officers obtained surveillance video of them using the stolen credit cards.
Warrants served on the suspects' homes yielded dozens of gift cards and thousands of dollars worth of Western Union receipts, police said.
Police said they also recovered padlocks, bolt cutters and clothing they said the men wore during the thefts.
Both men were booked in King County jail on investigation of three counts of identify theft.
Investigators said there are still other theft rings at gyms in the Puget Sound area.
