SEATTLE — A 10-year-old Mariners fan will continue a 20-year-old tradition before the Seattle Mariners’ home-opener against the Boston Red Sox on Thursday.
Dakota Butteris will be the first person to take a lap around the bases before first pitch – as part of a partnership with the Make A Wish Foundation.
Dakota is battling leukemia and visited T-Mobile Park on Monday to take a "test run" before Thursday’s big game.
“It’s sad that we got to do this for this reason, but we’re really excited for him to get out there and run around and get active again,” Dakota’s mother, Doris Guerrero, told KIRO 7.
Dakota told KIRO 7 he’s really excited to meet some of his favorite players like Felix Hernandez, Dee Gordon and Kyle Seager.
“I think (I’ll) be pretty nervous, but excited at the same time,” Dakota said.
