KIRKLAND, Wash. — The Kirkland Firefighters Union is calling on the city to give more funding for fire programs.
The open letter on its website says fire deaths, such as one on Finn Hill last month, are preventable "by industry standards."
The letter says the city eliminated programs to educate children and programs that ensure people use smoke detectors.
According to the Kirkland Reporter, the council says the fire budget increased by more than $4 million since 2010.
