Guilty plea for fatal stabbing inside Bellevue restaurant

BELLEVUE, Wa. — A 38-year-old transient has pleaded guilty to fatally stabbing a sleeping stranger in a suburban fast-food restaurant.

Steven Padilla faces nearly 22 years in prison when he's sentenced on March 31.

He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder with a deadly weapon in King County Superior Court on Monday.

Prosecutors say Padilla walked up the 65-year-old victim on Aug. 17 and stabbing him with a 10-inch knife at a Burger King in Bellevue. He then fled and got rid of the weapon.

Jose Arias died from his injuries.
